Jennie or Jen as she was called by many, was a happy spirit, who illuminated a room with joy and laughter when she entered. Jennie loved her family and made many trips to visit family in Pennsylvania, but when the family came to Charlotte, a great time was enjoyed by everyone – family and friends alike.
After attending McKinley Elementary School, McCaskey Middle School, and graduating from Central Dauphin High School in Harrisburg, PA., Jennie earned a Certificate in Theology from Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta Georgia.
She continually sought a deeper and richer understanding of God and God’s Word. She loved to read, especially Bible based books, was a movie buff and loved a good joke. How Jen could and would cook!
Let her find a recipe that sounded delicious and she made it and shared with others. Jennie made friends with persons of all ages and her wit would always give you a good laugh. Many of the former “Friendship Youth” who are grown with families today still think lovingly of Jennie because she poured spiritual knowledge and wisdom into them.
Jennie was employed by and retired from Wachovia Bank and Trust, in Charlotte, NC.
A loyal member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church (FMBC), Jennie served faithfully as an advisor to the youth of FMBC, a member of Alive For Christ (A4C) and Mass choirs, the S.E.R.V.E. committee, and a committed member of the Thursday Night Bible Study, as well as the Women’s Bible Study.
Jennie is survived by her loving mother, Sarah Gillis Blackwell; brothers, John Arthur Blackwell, Jr. (Terry); Harold Hyman Blackwell (Lori); sisters, Sarah Louise Watson and Robbie Louise Blackwell, and a host of other relatives and friends.
