Jerome Faulkner Doss

December 17, 1933 – April 12, 2014

Dr. Jerome F. Doss died April 12, 2014, in Charlotte of Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on December 17, 1933, the son of William Norman and Sarah Lorena (Simmons) Doss. In 1955 he married Dorothy Ann Carlson, who survives, as do their children, Jerri Ann Doss Helms, her husband Kerry and son Daniel, of Belmont, NC; and Paul Norman Doss, his wife Lisa, and children Tori, John and David, of Carmel, IN.

Dr. Doss was raised in southern Iowa, but attended high school and graduated from Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. He received a BA in liberal arts and medicine and his MD from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. His internship and specialty residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology were in Indianapolis, Indiana, at IU Medical Center and Marion County General Hospital. He served as a captain in the Air Force at Forbes Air Force Base near Topeka, Kansas, where he was Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for two years. He moved with his family to Kokomo, Indiana, in 1965 and was in private practice there for 25½ years. In 1990 he assumed an administrative position at Howard Community Hospital, from which he retired in 1995.

In March 2006 Dr. & Mrs. Doss moved to the Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. The family wishes to thank the staff for their loving care.
