Jerry Wayne Putnam

Jerry Wayne Putnam, 76, of Charlotte, passed away on October 12, 2020. Born April 8, 1944, he was the son of Cecil and Alma (Turner) Putnam. He married the love of his life, Martha Gladden, on May 24, 1963 at Moore’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Jerry served his country in the United States Navy, during which time he was deployed to Cuba for the Bay of Pigs aboard the U.S.S. Amphion (AR-13). A member of many organizations, Jerry was involved with Westgate Lodge 738, Oasis Shriners Dune Cats, and the Lions Club, among others. With his wife, he attended a few different churches over the years, most recently Durham Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a long-time employee in the telecommunications industry until his retirement with AT&T. Jerry enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and was an avid outdoorsman, but his true passion was golfing. Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years; Martha Putnam; daughter, Kimberly Putnam; grandchildren, Jimi Gibson, Kres Roberts, and Keri Roberts, all of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Lanier, Derrick “Jr.” Sifford, William “Kole” Smith, all of Charlotte, Aniah DeKruyf , Eden DeKruyf, Adriah DeKruyf and Livian Suah, all of Iowa; siblings, Suzanne Putnam of Charlotte, Nancy (Bob) Moore of Pageland, SC, Cindy Bolinger, Rincon,GA, Kitty (Ken) Berg of Lincolton, and Mark (Dessie) Putnam of Cramerton; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Terry Putnam Gibson (January 1, 2020); sister, Frances Davis and nephew, Chris Davis both of Charlotte.

Funeral Service 3 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2020, at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Visitation 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Entombment in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family requests that all attending the services wear mask and adhere to social distancing requirements. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Wounded Warriors or Westgate Lodge #738.
