Jimmie William Bookout

In addition to his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl David Bookout and Bobby Charles Bookout and his sister, Joyce Rae Bookout Elms.

He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends.

Jimmie enlisted in the North Carolina Army National Guard and later transferred to the United States Third Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina for basic infantry training and special schooling. He was honorably discharged in 1964.

He joined First Union National Bank and was promoted to Vice President of Corporate Real Estate and Property Management. Later in his career, Jimmie was invited to join Mecklenburg County Government as the Director of Facilities Management , where he retired in 1998.

Jimmie was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where he joined in 1970. He was elected to the Board of Deacons and served as Chairman for several years.

He served in the professional association for commercial property management (Building Owners and Managers Association, International) for more than thirty years. He also held the office of President in the local association for the Carolinas/Virginias Chapter for four years.

A visitation for Jimmie will be held at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, on June 25, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. His funeral service will take place on June 26, 2026, at 11:00 am in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will take place in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
