July 24, 1937 – February 4, 2019
Jimmie was born on July 24, 1937 in Vidalia, Louisiana to Jimmy and Susie Greene.
Soon after graduating high school, he joined the military. After a brief career in the Army, he moved to Las Vegas where he met and became friends with George Furman who would eventually introduce him to his younger sister, Janie.
Jimmie was thoroughly captivated by Janie. The two dated and their friendship naturally blossomed into love. In 1963, he married his best friend, and they embarked on a wonderful journey that would last 55 years. His bride at his side, and an exciting new future before him, he had no idea of the plans that God had for them.
In 1977, Jimmie became a gospel preacher for the Church of Christ. He was a pulpit preacher, but his true passion lay in evangelism. Nothing gave him more pleasure than having Janie at his side as he would sit “eyeball to eyeball and kneecap to kneecap” with people while teaching them the truth of God’s plan of salvation. He was instrumental in helping to plant two congregations, one in Henderson, Nevada, and another in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Over Jimmie’s 29 years of preaching and teaching, the couple would help bring hundreds of souls to Christ.
Jimmie and Janie were blessed with three sons, Cedric, Rodney, and Bryan, as well as twelve grandchildren. One of the grandchildren followed in his footsteps and became a gospel preacher himself.
In addition to being a preacher, Jimmie was a master cook in the kitchen. He loved creating new dishes like his “Jimmie Greene Beans” which were a famous family favorite. Although they laughed together about it later, his three “kitchen helper” sons will tell you that he was the only person they knew that could scramble an egg and use every pot in the kitchen!
Jimmie’s life will be forever cherished in the lives of his wife Janie, his siblings Wendell (Elnora), Doretha (John), Wilbert (Cynthia), and Joyce (James), his children Cedric (Tammy), Rodney (April), and Bryan (Katherine), and his grandchildren Brandon (Cynthia), Kayla, Quincey, Ky’Aira, Kendrick, Jasmyne, Braxton, Jorden, Brycen, Stefon, Cyrus, and Shane as well as four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Susie, father Jimmy, and siblings Ernestine, Ethel, Hazel, Leon, and Clifford.
