He was born September 6, 1942 in Columbia South Carolina. Son of Samuel Thomas and Eva Fullenweider Robertson, devoted father to his daughter Michelle McKelvey, son-in-law Virgil McKelvey and son James Darnell Thomas, and daughter-in-law Tabitha McClure Thomas. The proud grandfather of Tavia DeWalt, Jayla Thomas and Kourtney Thomas. Dearly loved sisters Gracie M. Smith, Francine Burton, Patricia Bryant and brothers Arthur David Robertson and Butch Thomas. Adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. He joins his predeceased grandparents, mom and dad, brothers: Samuel Thomas, JR, John Thomas and Freddie Thomas, sisters: Doris Thomas and Donna Robertson in God’s Kingdom where they greeted him with open arms.
Jimmie’s death leaves our hearts heavy and our minds bewildered. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was a loving father, brother and uncle as well as a great friend to many. His passion was spending time with his grandchildren who lovingly called him PaPa and working on cars.
After graduation from Peekskill High School in Peekskill, NY, Jimmy served in Vietnam with the US Army with the 82nd Airborne Division. He then retired from General Motors, Tarrytown NY, where he worked for over 20 years as a metal finisher later changing careers to relocate to Charlotte where he was employed as a highway inspector for NC Department of Transportation until his retirement.
Visitation will take place at McEwen Funeral Service, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte on Saturday, October 6 beginning at 12:00pm. Funeral service will follow at 1:00pm.
