He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1964. Jim held degrees in both Fire and Police Science. He was drafted, selecting the Navy as his branch of service, and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam aboard the aircraft carriers USS Roosevelet and USS Coral Sea as an Aviation Engineer. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals which are given for meritorious service in a combat zone, as well as the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Upon his return home, Jim joined the City of Charlotte Fire Department where he earned the rank of Captain and retired after 25 years of loyal service to the department and communities.
Tex was a natural born adventurer and avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He left Texas during his teens, but his “cowboy spirit” never left him. He loved to travel and loved his many hunting trips with his friends and family to Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado, and his fishing trips to Alaska.
Jim led a rewarding life by the choices he made. He was a “family man” and his #1 love was his two grandchildren, Tori and Gunnar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Brenda Carter Templin; his son, Bradley Wayne Templin and wife, Traci Helms Templin of Huntersville, NC; his granddaughter, Victoria Rae Templin; his grandson, Gunnar Ross Templin; his brother, Glenn Ray Templin and wife, Cindy Brooks Templin of Belmont, NC; his brother, Gary Paul Templin and wife, Jacqueline Templin of Denver, NC; and many nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at 11:00am on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at the Templin Family home. The memorial service will begin at 12:00pm.
