Joe Yates Cooke, Sr., age 81 of Charlotte passed away February 2, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice in Huntersville. Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Tuesday in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Pastor David Arledge officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home from 7-8:30PM Monday evening. Mr. Cooke was born in Charlotte August 28, 1931 son of the late Edward Webb and Aileene Deese Cook, attended Moores Chapel United Methodist Church, served 20 years in the US Navy and retired after 27 years as a supervisor from General Tire and Rubber Company. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Jean Cooke, daughter, Carolyn Beard and husband, Bobby of Charlotte, grandchildren, Elizabeth Economos, Mary Watts, Allison Cooke and Meredith Cooke, and a brother, David Cook of Charlotte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Joe Cooke, Jr. and Thomas Edward Cooke, 2 grandsons, Christopher Cooke and Andrew Cooke. Pallbearers will be Johnny Cook, Gene Cook, Eddie Cook, Bobby Beard, Randy Watts and Ronald Smith.
