He was born in Charlotte, NC, on August 19, 1945, the son of John “Andy” Raymond Anderson, Sr. and Harriett “Peggy” May Sadler.
Jack, as his friends called him, was born and raised in Charlotte. He graduated from Myers Park High School and grew up a member of the First Presbyterian Church on Trade St. He followed in his father’s footsteps and went into the automobile sales industry. During his career he worked his way up to being the General Manager of Rick Hendrick’s BMW and Acura dealerships. Jack and his wife owned an antique consignment shop in Rock Hill, SC for several years and enjoyed going to estate sales and auctions together. For a few years before his retirement, he worked at Kimbrell’s where he truly loved his co-workers and customers.
He loved the water and the beach whether it was swimming, water skiing, fishing or just strolling down the beach. His happy place was surf fishing in the quiet early hours of the day. Jack was a lifeguard, as a teenager, at the Windy Hill Beach in SC. In the later years he developed a new love for the North Carolina mountains.
Jack loved spending time in his yard. He enjoyed doing yard work and making it beautiful with many flowers and plants. Other hobbies included cooking, especially grilling out, playing golf, watching sports and driving around in his convertible sports car!
Jack loved to travel. He and Sherilyn were so blessed to have been able to travel together. Many unforgettable memories were made such as climbing to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and to the top of the dome at Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City in Italy. His favorite place to travel was to Europe especially Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Just last year they spent three weeks traveling all over Italy.
The joy of Jack’s life was his family and his cats. He absolutely adored his wife, Sherilyn. They met in 1975, went their separate ways for 28 years and reconnected in 2003. They were married in 2005 and lived in Fort Mill, SC. After they retired in 2019, they were literally together every day 24/7 until his passing.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, Sherilyn Owen Anderson, daughter Beth McLemore and her children Mitch, Kasey & Kelly, son John Raymond Anderson, III and his children Kelsey, Kayla & Garrett, and three great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother William “Bill” Sadler Anderson, his wife Charlene, their daughters Emily, Jennifer & Michelle, nephew Cameron Owen Hall, nephew John Ashton Hall, his wife Faye, their two daughters Eloise and Maren, “sister-in-love” Lauren Hall along with many good friends.
Jack is also survived by his two precious cats, JoJo and Moonpie, who loved him unconditionally, and who will especially miss the many treats and toys he spoiled them with!
Jack was predeceased in death by his parents and his sister Mary “Wendy” Linda Anderson.
His last few years were his happiest as he was able to spend all his time with his wife, cats and family.
Jack was my husband, my best friend, my soul mate and the love of my life. We were so blessed to be able to spend so many wonderful years together. Jack was the kindest, sweetest, most loving man I have ever known. Our life together was one of the great love stories. There are no words to express how much love and respect I have for him and how much I will miss him.
A celebration of life will be held in the chapel of the Little Church on the Lane, 522 Moravian Lane, Charlotte, NC 28207. The date to be determined.
