
Born in London, England he grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay. He was the son of the late Ethel Bateson Boyle. He was a member of Columbus Presbyterian Church and worshiped at Plantation Estates after he moved to Matthews in 2006.
Mr. Boyle worked for Compania Swift de Montevideo in the export sales department until he enlisted in the US Navy where he served in Naval Intelligence until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. He then attended Georgetown University where he earned a B.S. Foreign Service. Shortly after graduating from Georgetown he married Marjory “Marge” Large and moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked for International Cellucotton Products Companies in their export division. Mr. Boyle then took a position with Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin, headquarters of the company. In 1957 Mr. Boyle and his family were transferred to Mexico with Kimberly-Clark de Mexico where they remained for 28 years. They retired to Lake Wylie, South Carolina. After 10 years at River Hills Plantation, John and Marge moved to Columbus where they resided at Tryon Estates.
In 2007, one year after Marge’s death, John moved to Matthews, North Carolina where he resided at Plantation Estates. This move allowed him to be closer to his family.
His survivors include two daughters, Jane Webster and Elizabeth Riolo, both of Charlotte, North Carolina and six grandchildren, Sarah, Mary, Manuel, Andrew, John and Katherine.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for January 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at Plantation Estates in Matthews, North Carolina with Chaplin Larry Watts officiating.
McEwen Funeral Services at Sharon Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
