He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him.
John was born on July 25, 1940 in Conneaut, OH to Paul and Eleanor Brady. Upon his graduation from high school in 1958, John enlisted in the military and served in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean.
He was married in 1961 to Bettie Jean Chitwood and they had three children, sons John Jr. and Marc and daughter Terri. John was a natural as a dad and worked diligently to provide for his family while attending Bowling Green University where he received his degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation he began his 30+ year career in the food industry by going to work for Del Monte Foods.
Respected and admired by all who knew him, he had a kind and caring disposition which helped him to mentor others. He moved his family in 1980 to Charlotte where he continued his career and became an integral part of Rogers American. He was respected for his honesty, integrity and ability to make all he met feel special.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Jean Chitwood, parents Paul and Eleanor, his brother Terry and sister Joyce.
John met Fran Barnett through mutual friends and was fortunate enough to find a life partner to share his remaining days. Fran’s children, Casandra Ridenhour, Deta Vickery and Paul & Jennifer Barnett and grandchildren, Colby Oliver, Delaney Vickery, David Vickery, Christian Barnett, Abigail Barnett, Katelyn Barnett and Evangeline Barnett welcomed him in to their family where he enjoyed spending time and sharing with them.
John is survived by his wife, Fran Barnett-Brady, 2 sons: John Brady, Jr. and wife Allison of Waxhaw, NC; Marc Brady and wife Kim of Raleigh, NC and his daughter Terri Brady of Nashville, TN; 3 grandchildren; Hannah Brady of Charlotte, Michael & Joshua Brady of Raleigh. He is also survived by his six siblings, sisters Kathleen Meyn, Sharon Donavan, Mary Woissel, Sue Zeller, Kim Zureich and brother Les Brady.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 29, 2019 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC 28210.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 3 pm, Fort Mill Church of God, 221 Academy St., Fort Mill, SC 29715.
