John F. Burton

John graduated from VMI in 1947 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. As a student at VMI, John served as First Class President and Honor Court President. He worked for Graybar Electric Company for 43 years retiring as Charlotte Branch manager in 1990.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church and Myers Park Country Club. As a Rotarian and member of West Charlotte Rotary, he was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Norma Seay Burton; two children, Thomas C. Burton and wife Pam of Denver, NC and Jeanne Burton Gaffney and husband Steve of Charlotte; three grandchildren, John Robert Gaffney (Jordan), Kelly Dawn Burton, and David Brian Gaffney (Amber); and one great grandchild, Brian Lund Gaffney. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie Burton Hammond.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 2nd in Harry & Bryant's Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road. The family will receive friends following the service. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
