John Banks Choate, 77, passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 at CMC Main from the result of a stroke. Banks was born on March 10, 1941 to the late Ira and Ruth Kennedy Choate. He grew up in the Steele Creek community, graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and attended UNCC.
Banks' career started in sales with Superior Block Company and later Metromont Materials. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed raising angus cattle after retiring to Waxhaw.
Banks is survived by his wife Lucy Choate; children, Lee Moss (Joe), Mary Charles Wooldridge (Lance), Will Choate (Susan) and Sally Friedman (Dan). Grandchildren, Joseph Banks (Joby) Moss, Caroline Moss Catoe, Kathryn Wooldridge, Lucy Wooldridge, Julia Banks Friedman and Calla Friedman. Brothers, Barry Choate (Barbara) and Ben Choate (Mary).
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
