John "Jack" Robert Edwin, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 31,2025. Born on September 21, 1948, Jack lived a life marked by laughter, generosity, and deep connection to those around him.
Jack was a proud graduate of South Mecklenburg High School and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Following his service, he built a successful career in sales, retiring as a partner in Grogan Edwin, where he worked as a manufacturers' representative. His work ethic and integrity earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Jack will be remembered most for his ever-present sense of humor, his ability to roll with the punches, and his genuine concern for others. He was a master storyteller with special emphasis on the "story" part. He never met a tale he couldn't embellish to make it even better. He had a special way of engaging children, often tossing them playfully into the air (to the occasional nervous glance toward the ceiling). He made us laugh, he made us think, and he made us better simply by being in our lives. He will be deeply missed.
An avid golfer, Jack's passion for the game was unmatched: golf, golf, and more golf. For many years, he played three times a week with his many friends at Providence Country Club. Whether near (Providence), or far (Connecticut), his golfing buddies shared countless rounds, tournaments, clubhouse laughs, and memorable visits to the 19th hole.
Jack is survived by his siblings, Gene Edwin; Joan Sanford Hurst; and Susan Edwin Kirkendol ( Dallas). He also lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, and their children, including Lisa, Brian, Matthew and Harrison York; Michelle, Maya, and Sabrina Sanford and their partners, Rannie Moss, Thomas Blowers, and Justin Boyles, and baby Charlotte; Yvonne and Kasey Edwin; Matt and Jessica Edwin; Jason and Jessica Sanford; and Ethan, Elliott and Silas Sanford.
He leaves behind beloved family members Brandon and Allison, Holden, Arden, Beau, and Beck Plyler. They loved their "Papa J" and shared many memorable events together. Jack also cherished a special friendship with Jo Best, whose "Best" sense of humor and loving companionship brought him much joy.
Jack was surrounded by many kind neighbors and friends, including Leigh Bishop; Cheyenne and the entire Schultz family; Mitch and Laura Feldman; Kay; Martha; and so many others who stood by him as friends, companions, and joyful "spoilers" of Riley. Jack especially enjoyed time spent with neighborhood children and the whole cul-de-sac-crew.
Jack's faithful companion, Riley, the best dog, eater of treats, and self-appointed baby held a special place in his heart. Jack would do anything for Riley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Edwin; his beloved partner, Nancy Harper Taylor; and his brothers-in-law, George Carroll Sanford, Jr. and Robert Hurst.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, the Red Cross, the Wounded Warriors Project, or a charity of one's choice.
A visitation will be held at McEwen Pineville Funeral Service Inc., located at 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210, US. Service is scheduled for January 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
