John Franklin Walters, 85, of Clover, SC formerly of Charlotte, during his peaceful slumber, took his last breath on Earth and sang his first song of glory in the Kingdom of God on Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was born on August 27, 1927, in Mullins, SC to the late John and Retha Walters. Frank was also preceded in death by his only son Howie Walters, his brothers Wilson and Carl Walters and a sister, Edna Harrelson. He is survived by his bride of 59 years, Madeline Davis Walters, formerly of Lawndale, NC; their daughter Lisa DeMarco and husband Rick DeMarco also of Clover; grandson Anthony and wife Shelby DeMarco ; granddaughter Carissa DeMarco; and his first great-grandson John Brayden DeMarco, due to be born July 26th and a sister Louise Walters Hollingsworth. Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews and a large number of family and friends whom he loved. Frank attended Kings Business College in Raleigh, NC after graduating from Mullins High School. He was then invited by President Truman and accepted willingly to serve in the United States Air Force stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Following his military service, Frank attended Clemson University prior to his 30 year career at Duke Power Company in Charlotte, NC; lastly of the Deeds and Records department. Retiring in 1983 he was able to enjoy 30 more years of being with his family and friends, hobbies such as woodworking, gardening and traveling. His greatest joy however was to spend quiet moments with his Lord and Savior; reading His Word, and serving as deacon at Oakhurst Baptist Church; where he and Madeline attended from 1957 until 2006 when they moved from Matthews, NC to Clover, SC to be closer to their beloved grandchildren. After relocating, their priority and prayerful search for a new home church, where he and Madeline could continue to serve and fellowship; led them to Clover First Baptist Church. Frank was always a friend to everyone.
A real asset to any effort at hand in Duke Power. A person that others admired.I am a better person for having known him. I am sure Heaven is a little better place now.
God bless you in this time of grief.
