

Johnny Leondias Chandler, age 80, passed away on January 31, 2024 at Atrium Pineville after battling Pulmonary Fibrosis and Pneumonia. He departed this life surrounded by family and holding hands with the love of his life, Barbara Ann Setzer Chandler. They were married December 2, 1962 and just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
John was born October 2, 1943 in Newton, NC to the late James Leondias Chandler and Kathryn Lucy Chandler. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1961 and UNC-Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1972. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1967 in a linguistic intelligence unit. John was a hard worker, always working two to three jobs just to get through college and raise his family. His last employer was Metro Management. He was there 18 years as an accountant and office manager, working up to this year when he retired at age 80!
In addition to his loving wife Barbara, he is survived by four children: Cynthia Annette Boyd, Leonard Scott Chandler, Tanya Renee Hyman, and Joel Marcus Chandler; grandchildren: Alexandra, Robert, Katie, Savannah, Brandon, Chris, Joey, Meredith, Josh, Taylor, Ashley, Brianna, and Jacob; and seven great-grandchildren.
John's family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Atrium staff for their wonderful care.
A Celebration of John's Life will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm on March 10, 2024 at Stallings Methodist Church,1115 Stallings Road, Matthews, NC 28104. Military Honors will be recognized at this time also.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
