Jonathan, 40, passed away Thursday, June 29th 2023 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC. He was surrounded by his loving family, friend and colleague Jana Hewitt, and hospice staff.
Born July 14th, 1982 in Bromley, England. He was the son of Kristopher and Lois Zygowiec. Following the acquisition of his GED, Jonathan furthered his education by pursuing two Masters Degrees and culminated by satisfying the requirements of his Emergency Medical Residency as a Doctor of Osteopathy, then serving as chief resident. This level of achievement would have come as quite a shock to his advisor in college, who ill-advisedly suggested he leave school and pick a trade instead.
Jonathan’s life could best be summed up in the quote which hung over his head as he slept at night “You are making a difference every day”. That difference he made was felt in many ways by the people he touched through his life. Either while working on the ambulance through college, or in multiple ER’s through his life, Jonathan made that difference. It was his great honor to serve the country as a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve with the 916th Air Refueling Wing.
His most important role however was husband and father. On July 31, 2005 Jonathan married his college sweetheart, the former Nadine Kirsch. Together their adventures carried them across the country. Along the way they successively welcomed three sons into the world who brought them so much joy and completed their family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Nadine Zygowiec; three children, Ian Zygowiec (14), Collin Zygowiec (12), and Levi Zygowiec (10) of Charlotte. Doting parents, Kristopher and Lois Zygowiec also of Charlotte; as well as his loving older brother Krystian Zygowiec of Niles, MI along with his niece, Ava (15) and nephew, Ryan (13).
A visitation for Jonathan will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A service to celebrate Jonathan's life will occur Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Dr., Matthews, NC 28105.
For those wanting to send memorial gifts the family thinks Jonathan would most appreciate you to follow the last post he made to FaceBook. “Do a good deed today and send some love”. So please find someone you can help and make a difference in their day!
