Joseph (Joe) Leon Stewart, 87 of Columbia, SC formerly of Spartanburg, SC and of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Palmetto Baptist Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Stewart was born on July 11, 1928 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late Charles Thomas Stewart and Clara Rowell Stewart and brother of the late Frances Stewart Gay. He was a 1946 graduate of Long Creek High School where he played varsity baseball. He retired from Spartan Food Systems in 1989. During retirement, Mr. Stewart devoted much of his time caring for his loving wife, Linda. He also enjoyed being outdoors and taking long walks and was an avid sports fan. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Hager Stewart; four children, James Stewart, Monica L Durham, Joseph “Skip” Stewart II (Danielle), and Melinda S Stiefel (Edward Stiefel Jr.); grandchildren Brandon Piazza , Justin Piazza, Joshua Stewart, Cheyenne Stewart, Eric Stiefel, Landon Stewart, Jacob Stewart, and Katiana Stewart. Visitation will be held on Saturday February 20, 2016 at 1PM followed by a graveside service at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte, NC.
