Joshua William Riska

July 3, 1978April 27, 2021

Joshua William Riska, loving husband to Sarah; devoted father to Holden Grace; best friend to his brother Caleb and caring sister-in-law Kristal; and faithful son to his Mother and Father, Patricia and Bill, found his Heavenly peace on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

Joshua was born on July 3, 1978 in Columbia, Missouri. He grew up in Charlotte where he attended Providence Day and Country Day School. He graduated in 1997 from Providence High School where he was a standout soccer player. He is fondly remembered for the excitement he brought to fans on the soccer field then and in years following when he was integrally involved in various youth and adult soccer programs in Charlotte. Josh attended the College of Charleston. After college he worked in the financial field and had a very successful career as an Underwriter, most recently with Mortgage company.

Joshua was fortunate to have many loving and caring friends. He will always be remembered as the guy who was an immediate friend to all he met, a man who truly knew the joys of life. His dedicated brother, Caleb, Josh’s most loyal, supportive and faithful companion, mourns the loss of his very best friend. But Josh’s most cherished and devoted pleasure in life was to be an outstanding and truly devoted father to his beautiful daughter, Holden Grace, who stole his heart the moment she was born.

A service to celebrate Josh’s life will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, May 2, 2021 in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.

In lieu of flowers for those wishing to send memorial gifts, please consider Charlotte Rescue Mission at Please enter Josh’s name under “Tribute Gift”. The address is PO Box 33000, Charlotte, NC 28233.

I've met Josh for a brief time and in this time, I knew he was a stand-up guy. He was always quick to help and I appreciate his humor. It's sad that the earth is missing another good soul. Prayers to everyone who's lives he's touched. He shall be missed.

Born to early and gone to early.
What a loving tribute we witnessed yesterday at Joshua's memorial service.
We have some great memories of seeing Joshua and Caleb growing up next to us as neighbors in Berkeley for almost 20 years.

Love and hugs, Ineke

My deepest condolences for the entire Riska family. I am so very sorry for a loss that came far too early. The service was beautiful and heartfelt. It is clear that Josh led a life with joy and compassion touching all who knew him. His time here on earth sounds well lived albeit too short. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

We knew Josh from Piper Glen and our girls going to CCS. Josh was always kind and even offered to carpool our kids since his schedule was more flexible. His kindness and ability to make others laugh will be missed. My prayers for his family and loved ones.
