Joy Lorraine Wright

Joy Wright, 65, slipped into eternal rest on August 3rd, 2026, at her residence in Charlotte, North Carolina, loved by all who knew her. Joy was born in Hartford, Connecticut on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1960, to the late Elizabeth and Willis Wright Jr.

Growing up in Hartford, Connecticut, Joy attended Thomas Snell Weaver High School. She was both a leader inside and outside of the classroom. Joy had a profound love for history, which started in her youth. When not in class, Joy was the drill sergeant team captain, leading performances at Friday night football games.

After graduating from Thomas Snell Weaver High School, Joy went on to earn her associate's degree from Springfield Technical Community College. At STCC, Joy studied secretarial studies. Passionate about continuing to further her education, Joy moved to Durham, North Carolina, to attend North Carolina Central University, where she got her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Joy had a passion for helping others and worked as a Human Resources Manager in hospitality services before transitioning to Healthcare.

She had a beautiful spirit that would captivate an entire room. She had a magnetic energy that people enjoyed being around. Joy was loved deeply by those who had the privilege of crossing her path. She was kind, empathetic, and thoughtful. She went out of her way to ensure that her family felt loved and supported no matter the circumstance. She took care of her mother, Elizabeth Wright, until her last breath. Joy took care of the people around her and always put her family first.

Her passion for history extended in her adulthood, where she single-handedly tracked down the family’s history. She was the knowledge holder of the family’s genealogy dating back centuries. Joy was also known for having a green thumb, where she successfully grew her own fruits and vegetables, turning them into amazing dishes for the entire family.

Among those who fondly cherish her memory are her daughter, Savannah Baker of Charlotte, NC, two brothers, Gregory and Curtis (Jesslyn) Wright of Charlotte, NC, along with two sisters, Diane (Curtis) Richardson of Yulee, FL, and Darlene Wright of Charlotte, NC. She leaves one aunt, Velma (Allen) Brown of Durham, NC, and a cousin, Katherine McRae (aka Aunt Kat) of Charlotte, NC, as well as a host of nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joy was predeceased by three brothers, James Wright, Willis Jr. Wright, and Larry Wright.

Joy was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262, between 10 AM to 11 AM. Funeral Service to follow.
