Juanita Pearl Halstead Neas died peacefully in her sleep on October 16, 2018 after a long and productive life. Juanita was born in South Charleston, WV on February 17, 1921, the daughter of Charles Bennett Halstead and Edith Sink Halstead and wife of Charles Cleveland Coe Neas.
She is survived by her children Victoria Anne Neas Duckworth (John) and Lucas Matthew Neas (Kathy), her grandsons Charles Bennett Neas (Lauren) and Thomas Matthew Neas (Amy), and her great grandchildren, Judah May and Emeline Rosemary May Neas.
She graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, WV and received a master’s in mathematics from Columbia University in New York, NY. She taught middle-school algebra in West Virginia at South Charleston Junior High School and John Adams Junior High School. She was active in the altar guild of All Saints Episcopal Church in South Charleston, WV and the library and chapel at Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery and was active in sewing circles at Southminster.
Funeral service is scheduled for 3pm on Thursday, October 18 at the Chapel at Southminster. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Juanita’s favorite charity, Loaves and Fishes of Charlotte, NC.
