Our beloved Mom, Judith A. Drummond (Judy) graduated from Michigan State University, where she was an English major, a majorette and an all around social butterfly. In the late 1960’s, she moved with her family to St. John, the smallest of the U.S. Virgin Islands. She raised her children there, opened the only bakery on the island, Patio Bakery, and was the founder and editor of the island’s only newspaper, The St. John Drum. Mom was an avid scuba diver, knew no strangers, had kind words and sage advice for everyone she met; she was a great Mom and truly a great friend to many!
Mother didn’t come to know Jesus Christ until she was in her late 60’s, after much discussion and apologetic debates with her children and after reading Josh McDowell’s More than a Carpenter and The Boyd’s Letters from a Skeptic. Mom was 68 years old when she gave her life to our Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized on Mother’s Day, 1998, along with her recently born again daughter Elizabeth, by David Chadwick at Forest Hill Church. After that time, Mom was on fire for Christ! She loved listening to and watching Andrew Womack. Even with her very limited income, she tithed always. Plus she gave generously to many Christian charities. I believe that Mom helped lead many people to know Christ!
As her time on Earth neared its end, Mom often spoke of meeting Christ and of seeing her beloved parents and friends who had passed before her. We, as her children, know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was much celebrating upon her arrival at the Pearly Gates early on 3/12/15, and that Heaven will be a brighter place with her there, even as the holes she’s left in our hearts here feel so dark at this time. We also know that we will be reunited with her soon, and will be welcomed Home into the same loving embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ - who holds Mom so tightly now.
Mom is healed, now out of pain, completely free of all suffering and any discomfort – and for that we are all beyond grateful. Of course, the pain of our loss will linger, but we know we did all we could for her and that she is now smiling down on us, happy and proud of the love she knew and shared, of the laughter and happiness she spread, and of all the lives she touched with her amazingly outgoing personality and positive, God-centered outlook.
We love and miss you, Mom! And will remember you forever, until the time we are together again.
Much love,
Your Children
Heidi, Elizabeth, Derek, Germaine and Marva
