Judith Wray Lemmons, 72, passed away on January 9th, 2024 after a long fight with Dementia. Judy committed over 2 years of her life to research of a trial drug to cure Alzheimer’s. She suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result in October of 2022. She fought hard over these last 15 months and finally succumbed.
Judy was born March 15th, 1951 in Mayodan, NC to the late George Otis Wray and Eleanor Mae Hall Wray. She previously resided in Greensboro, NC before settling in Charlotte, NC.
She graduated from Madison-Mayodan High School in 1969 and then attended UNCG to study clothing, textiles, and merchandising where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 1973. She started her career at the Belk Store in Greensboro where she moved up to management and the buying office. She was employed by Belk Store Services until 2002 and then went to work at Rack Room Shoes where she had the opportunity to create her own children’s shoe brand “Cupcake Couture”. She absolutely loved designing. After so many years of hard work and dedication, she retired in 2017. She made lifelong friendships in both places with many amazing people.
A beautiful woman with a loving and gentle spirit who loved children, animals, flowers and gardening, time spent with family, rides to just about anywhere, visits to the beach, dancing, music and football. She gave generously over the years to any charitable organization that supported children.
She will be most remembered for her big heart. In addition to her one true love, Bill Hannon, and brother, Tim Wray, she is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Nicole Burrage, and grandchildren, Austin, Lily, and Taylor.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Sheila Jefferson for the wonderful love and care she provided to Judy during such a challenging time.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on January 28th at McEwen Funeral Service in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, a tribute gift in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.. Alzheimer's Association | Donate to Fight Alzheimer's Disease.
A message from her daughter..
Mom was the kindest, sweetest, most beautiful person I have ever known. She loved so many and was loved so deeply in return. She made the world a better place. Yet somehow, I still found moments to criticize. We argued. We laughed. We cried. We were best friends. We were roll dogs. We were mother and daughter and sometimes the reverse. She allowed me space to soar. She was there when I landed on my ass and was there to celebrate when I didn't. She listened to all my stories. She answered every 3 am phone call and they were sooooo many. She has been the best Juju to these most awesome children. She was Phil's biggest supporter (gosh it was annoying). She might have even been tied with him as #1 Panther Fan. And dancing... let me tell you the woman could shake her booty. Judy Lemmons you are so loved, and you will be missed greatly, but I'm so happy you are finally at rest.
