Julie was born in Roanoke, Virginia on March 27th, 1957 as the oldest of three to Bud and Betty Rosenbaum. Julie was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughter Amy, who she consistently described as one of the best parts of her life and a constant source of pride. She fully embraced her role as a mom, devoted partner, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and dog mom. Julie cultivated friendships throughout her life, including many people from grade school, her childhood neighborhood, her team of forty five years at Duke Energy, and people she met along the way.
For everyone who knew her, Julie was a kind and compassionate person who nurtured her relationships and consistently found humor in life. She valued spending time with others, always showing her love for people through good times and hard times. Julie was known for moving through life with a smile on her face and engaging in self-deprecating humor. She was an inherently supportive, gentle, and sweet person in so many ways, always providing reassurance and reminding people how much they are loved. She represented the epitome of what it means to be human by openly acknowledging what she perceived to be her faults and striving to do better. Julie embodied a quiet and unassuming strength that we all witnessed, learned from, and will continue to carry forward with us.
Towards the end of her life, Julie had time to reflect on her life, sharing her undying love for those close to her. While she spent the last few months of life in and out of the hospital, she enjoyed visits and phone calls from family and friends. Forever a grateful person, Julie voiced appreciation for the tender well wishes she received from those who she poured love into for so much of her life.
Julie is survived by her daughter, Amy Washington; son in law, Ricky Washington; grandchildren, Isaac and Trinity, her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Rosenbaum; siblings, Mel Rosenbaum and Peggy Hicks; brothers’ in law, Tom Stutts and Larry Hicks; niece, Jule Hicks; nephew, Tommy Hicks; several extended family members; her dog, Buddy; and a wealth of friends.
