Charlotte-Mrs. Broadrick passed away on June 6, 2013. She was born in Madison County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joe and Mary Whitt Terrill; and a beloved wife to her late husband, George H. Broadrick.
Mrs. Broadrick attended Madison County schools and Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. She moved to Detroit, Michigan, to live with one of her sisters, and was employed by Chevrolet Gear and Axle. While traveling back to Detroit, she met a young handsome military officer in the dining car of a train, who would become her future husband. As World War II progressed, they mainly courted by mail until they were married in April of 1945. She traveled with George in his assignments with the Army Air Forces, living in such places as Boston, Massachusetts; Denver, Colorado; Biloxi, Mississippi and Boca Raton, Florida. They finally ended up living in his hometown of Fort Valley, Georgia where he was stationed at Walter Robbins Air Force Base. In 1954, they moved with their daughter to Smithfield, North Carolina, where George went to work for First Citizens Bank and Trust Company. In 1960, they moved to Charlotte, to continue expanding the Bank in this area.
She was a friend to all the children and dogs on her street; and usually carried a couple of dog biscuits in her pocket when she would go for her walks. June watched a generation of these children grow up and have children of their own. She was small but formidable. Despite bouts of illness and years of chronic ailments, she never stopped being a loving neighbor and good friend. When her daughter, Mary, was attending Charlotte Christian School, she spent three years volunteering as the bookkeeper. She was extremely generous to her family and to all the people she loved.
June is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Broadrick Moffitt and her husband John E. Moffitt, Sr.; granddaughters, Angela Moffitt Bowman and her husband, Tony Bowman of Jamestown, North Carolina; Christina Moffitt Davis and her husband, Russell K. Davis of Emerald Isle, North Carolina; and grandson John E. Moffitt, Jr. and his wife, Kristin Moffitt. She is also survived by four great- grandchildren, Austin K. Crouch, USAF, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sydney, Addison and Braeden Davis; and a great- granddaughter to be born in October. She is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Stoddart of Cincinnati, Ohio; and by many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she loved very much; and by her special friend, Hedley Jennings. She was predeceased by two brothers and six sisters. They are all rejoicing now that she has joined them in Heaven.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm on Monday evening, June 10, 2013 at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. The funeral service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, June 11th in the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
