He was a machine operator for the Tribune, Ft. Lauderdale News for many years. His family moved to Charlotte NC where they were owners/operators of a 37-unit apartment complex until it was sold. In Retirement, he was a van driver in the hospitality industry for various Charlotte Hotels. He loved that job and all the people he met. During the final years, his health declined and he lived with his daughter Shannon who cared for him after a stroke left him permanently disabled.
A faith based member of the Advent Lutheran Church where he loved to sit in the front row, sing and worship along with his church family. He was part of the adventures group and tried to always make the church BBQ and chili supper. The family will always cherish the bond he made with Pastor Ward.
He was warm, friendly, and easy to talk to. Much of the time was spent talking or texting with family and friends. Kal made friends easily and random conversations with strangers often lead to long lasting friendships. He had a completely goofy side where he would pull practical jokes on people and often asked all the pretty women if they wanted to get married. You were a friend of his if he said “Happy Birthday” when it wasn’t even your birthday.
Although he didn’t have worldly possessions, he had a giving heart and went out of his way to help anyone who was in need. It wasn’t unlike him to give away his last few dollars to help one out. One time, he even gave away his shoes. That’s just the kind of man he was. He enjoyed sightseeing and eating his favorite foods following various doctor appointments. He will always be remembered for being kind hearted, humble, compassionate, devoted, a good listener and someone that could get you through a rough time.
