Kanakalakshmi Prabhakar Shodavaram

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kanakalakshmi Prabhakar Shodavaram, who left this world on August 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on July 3,1933, in the Garden city of Bangalore, India, Kanakalakshmi lived a life rich in love, dedication, and service. She was the cherished daughter of Gopal Chinnaswami Sriramulu and Maria Dasu.

Kanakalakshmi’s educational journey began at Maharani Science College for Women in Bangalore, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. For 31 years, she served as the Deputy Director in the Department of Education in Bangalore, India, where her dedication to fostering learning and growth in the community left an indelible mark.

In pursuit of new opportunities and experiences, she moved to the United States in 1980, where she worked as a Medical Coder at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, NY, for a decade.

A woman of profound faith, Kanakalakshmi was a valued member of St. Mark’s Cathedral in Bangalore, India. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Kanakalakshmi’s warmth, kindness and her love for cooking touched many lives,

Kanakalakshmi’s personal life was equally remarkable. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Prabhakar Jayaveera Shodavaram. She is survived by her loving son, Sharath P. Shodavaram and family, and daughter, Madhu Luther and family.

She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts.
