Karen was born March 30, 1945 and graduated from Garinger High School in 1963 and Furman University in 1967 with a BA in history. She began her teaching career in CMS at Albemarle Rd. Junior High but transferred to North Mecklenburg High after two years where she taught many popular history classes until her retirement in 1997. She also taught water aerobic classes for seniors from 2001 until 2011 at the YWCA on Park Road.
Karen was a dedicated teacher who spent countless hours tutoring her students, sponsoring clubs, like the IRC and helping with many extra curricular activities. She made her history classes come alive for all her classes and her AP students always excelled on their exams. Her classes at the "Y" were also popular and she made many good friends there.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Cliff. She is survived by her brother, Samuel R. Suitt, III, (Sam) of Lyons, Oregon and many cousins in Ohio, her mother's home state. She was a faithful and loyal friend and will be greatly missed.
A small private service will be held at her graveside on Wednesday, January 19 at 1 pm at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday March 30, at a site TBA depending on the weather and Covid.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the North Mecklenburg Scholarship Fund or to the Triad Sheltie Rescue in Youngsville NC.
