

Charlotte – Mrs. O’Neill, 88, passed away on July 2, 2015. She was born on October 18, 1926 in Osage, Iowa, a daughter of the late Bernard and Lorena Blonigen Hemrich, and beloved wife of the late Thomas B. O’Neill.
She graduated from Osage High School in 1944 and moved to Washington D.C. to work as a stenographer for the FBI during WWII. In 1947, she married Thomas O’Neill and they moved to San Francisco, CA. They later lived in West Hartford, CT before moving to Charlotte in 1972. She volunteered at Charlotte Little Theatre and later Mercy Hospital. For fifteen years she provided in-home childcare for many local families.
She is survived by daughter, Theresa Bergmark of Goldsboro; son, Brian (Deanna) O’Neill of Charlotte; grandsons, Joseph (Hillary) Bergmark of Apex and David (Jennifer) Bergmark of Raleigh; granddaughter, Megan O’Neill of Charlotte; great-grandson, Ian Bergmark of Apex; brother, Jerry (Karen) Hemrich of Fairfield, Iowa; sisters, Dorothy (Bernard) Elwood of Crestview, FL and Mildred Hatten of Haverhill, MA
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Joseph, Ronald and Everett; and sisters, Mary Lou Hemrich and Adeline Nees.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 pm on Tuesday, July 7th at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service.
