Born on the Fourth of July, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John Milne and Verna Glavin from Digby, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents moved to Mississippi to assist victims of the great 1927 Mississippi flood. Following graduation from Central High School in Jackson, Kathryn furthered her education at Belhaven College in Jackson and Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She received a Masters Degree in Religious Education from the General Assembly Training School for Lay Workers (now Union Presbyterian Seminary) in 1958 in Richmond, Virginia. Her work began in Florida as the Director of Christian Education for First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland and as religious instructor in local schools. She also later worked on the staff of the Presbyterian Church of Westfield, New Jersey.
Kathryn was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and an active member of Presbyterian Women (PW) in Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Cape Carteret, NC. During her summer college years, she served as a counselor at Camp Montreat for Girls where she instructed canoeing.
Kathryn was the loving wife of her husband, William “Jack” Little from Charlotte, NC, a pharmaceutical sales executive, whom she married June 30, 1961 and enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his death. She loved animals throughout her life; maintained a close, life-long friendship with seven of her best kindergarten friends; and enjoyed traveling throughout North America with her husband, including a motorcycle trip across Canada. In 2018, she was honored for serving 65 years in the women’s service organization, P.E.0.
She is survived by her two children, Elizabeth Little of Charlotte and Andrew Little (Jennifer) of Grand Rapids, Michigan and two beloved grandchildren, Abigail (12) and Jackson Little (10).
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joanna Tygett of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; mother of niece Mary Tygett, Spartanburg, SC.
A service to celebrate Kathryn’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14th in the Great Room at Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Charlotte. Parking available at Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church. Private interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Charlotte.
