Keith had a great last day. He started with breakfast with his wife, Gina, and fur baby, Mia, and then went on a long walk with Gina and Mia through the woods. Keith ate his favorite lunch, a turkey reuben, and then headed up to his “man cave” where he reached out to old friends, practiced Spanish, and checked in on his fantasy sports teams. The last thing Keith did was what he loved and did religiously every day, and that was exercise. Keith was truly living his best life in his retirement years.
Born May 16, 1948, in Jamaica Queens, Keith was the son of Marion Derrell (Dave) Mauney and Leigh Mauney. Following graduation from North Babylon High School, where he excelled in football, baseball, and track, Keith headed off to Princeton University on an academic scholarship. At Princeton, Keith played Football and was all American in Lacrosse. Keith’s career started out in the insurance industry, but he soon found his passion for bond trading at Smith Barney in NYC. While working at Smith Barney, Keith earned his MBA from NYU - all while raising a young family. Keith’s career really took off when he joined Goldman Sachs on Wall Street where he worked for 16 years. There was where he also met his loving wife or “Mamalooch,” Gina. After leaving Goldman, Keith was recruited by Nations Bank in Charlotte to help grow their Capital Markets division. Keith rounded out his long career in finance when he joined Carolina Capital Markets in Chapel Hill and opened their first Charlotte office. He took his two dogs, Doc and Cocoa, to work every day and soon earned the name of “Bond Dog.”
Keith’s loved, loved, loved his family. He was a devoted husband, very proud father, and grandfather. As an avid Disney lover, Keith enjoyed many trips to the “happiest place on earth” with his family and would always ask when the next trip to Disney was going to be. He was constantly on his phone making fantasy trades and keeping up with his many friends from North Babylon and Princeton. He made himself a margarita every day and had Happy Hour in his backyard with his wife. He truly enjoyed every moment of his life and did not take anything for granted.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gina; 4 children, Brian Mauney (Lorraine) of Armonk, NY, Alison Mauney Chafin (Gavin), of Charlotte, Keith Mauney Jr. of Denver, CO, and Christina Mauney Bramhall (Tom) of Mooresville, NC; and his 7 cherished grandchildren, Claire, Jack, Blake, Oliver, Abigail, Luke, and Finley; as well as his sister Lisa.
His son, Scott Mauney, preceded him in death.
A service to celebrate Keith’s life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, February 12th in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road. The family will receive friends following the service.
