It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenrick Fitzherbert Cato, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, sibling, and friend. Kenrick was born on March 13, 1947, in Victoria Village, Guyana, South America, and he departed this life on November 4, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. His journey was one marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering positivity that touched the lives of all who knew him.
Kenrick was the cherished son of Keza Blaire and Sheila Agatha Cato, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jana Daima Cato, and his proud children: Kenrick Cato, Kimoela Cato, Akwasi Cato, Nicholas Mwamburi, Raymond Mwamburi, and Shiela Cato. He delighted in being a grandfather to Eli Cato, Maximus Cato, Elizabeth Cato, Ka'Sean Thompson, Na'Sir Thompson, and Ashton Arlington-Mwamburi, nurturing each one with love and wisdom.
Kenrick's legacy extends beyond his immediate family. He is also mourned by his former wife, Flora Cato, and a large and loving extended family that includes siblings Fred, Sandra, Jewel, June, Denise, Donna, Dennis, and Richard. His in-laws Felix, Derek, Frank, Berta, Edna, John, Steven, Abel, Emma, and Angela, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews—Michelle, Deanna, Sarah, Luana, Leisel, Monique, Mykelah, Meghan, Olivia, Elizabeth, Andre, Mark, Kevin, Kenny, Omar, Christopher, Benjamin, Richie, Quintin, Antonio, Ali, and Raymond—will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Kenrick was a proud alumnus of Victoria High School in Guyana, later advancing his education at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where he earned an Associate in Science degree in February 1988, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix on January 31, 2013. His dedication to education was rivaled only by his commitment to his career as part of the United Nations Security Staff, where he exemplified professionalism and integrity.
Throughout his life, Kenrick was an active member of various organizations, including The International Association of Chiefs of Police and the American Society for Industrial Security, reflecting his deep commitment to community and service. His hobbies brought him joy; he was an avid reader, a passionate photographer, and a lover of travel. Kenrick had a special affinity for tennis and cricket, both playing and watching the sports he cherished. He often enjoyed attending family events across the country and the world, with his wife by his side, and found great pleasure in sharing moments at the movies.
Kenrick will be remembered for his loving, kind, and compassionate spirit. His unique smile and infectious positivity left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. He was a remarkable listener, always ready to offer advice and support, seeing the good in others and helping them to see it in themselves.
Kenrick Fitzherbert Cato's funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville Chapel, located at 10500 Park Road in Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Salvation Army, or the Disabled American Veterans, honoring Kenrick's lifelong commitment to helping others.
As we celebrate the life of Kenrick, we remember a man who lived fully and loved deeply. Though he will be profoundly missed, his spirit will forever guide and inspire us.
