

November 9, 1930 – December 27, 2015
Kent B. Morris, age 85, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 after a very sudden illness. Kent was born in Decatur, GA and grew up helping his grandparents with the family grocery stores. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Georgia Tech with an Industrial & Systems Engineering and School of Material Science and Engineering degrees. Kent was a member of the TAU BETA PI Engineers Honor Society and the ALPHA TAU OMEGA fraternity. Kent earned his Professional Engineer certification, was the Georgia Tech Club president and longtime member of the Instrument Society of America.
After college and being in the ROTC, he served as an Army Captain in the Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. Charlotte was his home for over 60 years. He worked for Robert E. Mason before joining Systems Services, Inc. as a partner. Kent started two more industrial instrumentation companies, Piedmont Instruments & Controls and Kent Morris Inc.
Upon retirement, Kent pursued his lifelong love of vegetable gardening and model railroading. Kent was a member of the Piedmont Garden Railroaders and constructed beautifully elaborate layouts. Anyone who ever saw them in person came away amazed. Kent’s love of trains extended to traveling around the country with his wife to discover and learn about famous railroads.
Kent was a long time member of Calvary Church where his church and Sunday School Class members were a very important part of his life. Kent and Gay recently moved to the Cypress and thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and making great friends.
Kent is survived by his wife Lillian Gaynell Morris; sister Diane Morris DeBlock, daughters Cynthia Jeane McCreery and Virginia Lynn Sender; step daughter Vickie Gay Randall and granddaughters Eleanor Eileen Morris and Lauren Natalie Randall; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Broyles Morris and his son Edward Eugene Morris.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 31, 2015 from 1pm to 2 pm at Calvary Church Chapel, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Rd. Charlotte, NC 28226 where a service will follow at 2 pm. Interment Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Calvary Church or the charity of your choice.
