

Chief Warrant Officer Three (Retired) Lanny Shayne Hall, Sr., 72, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2020. Born July 29, 1947 in Louisville, KY, he married his loving wife, Marion Mai, on June 1, 1966 in Germany.
Lanny served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1984 and was a Vietnam Veteran, serving two tours; he was a Legion of Merit and two-time Bronze Star recipient. Lanny continued his career as an Army Civilian for another 25 years until his retirement in 2009. He served nearly 30 years of his 45-year Army career in Germany.
Lanny was a lifelong fan of the Kentucky Wildcats. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, reading, and watching sports, and he was the biggest fan of his five grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Marion Hall, sons Lanny, Jr. (Kelly) of Charlotte, NC, Brian (Ursula) of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Kevin (Leigh Anna) of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren Anthony, Logan, Jessica, Eva, and Owen; sisters Patricia Hawkins and Susan (Jim) White; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend James and Maurece Hall, and brother David Hall.
A private burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Services Organization (USO) at https://www.USO.org/donate.
