Larry Oliver Kerr

Larry Kerr, 80, was born on the 7th of August, 1944 in Charlotte, NC and departed this earth the 9th of October, 2024. As a native of Charlotte, Larry attended public schools, graduating from Harry P. Harding High School in 1962. He later attended Wingate College and Catawba College where he was recruited to play in the Chicago White Sox organization. The development of his athletic career was interrupted by the military when he was drafted during the Vietnam War era and sent to Germany.

Larry loved sports of all kinds participating in baseball, softball, basketball and football with his school teams, the Red Shield Boys Club and the Optimist Club teammates. As he aged, he continued to play ball with business sponsored teams in the City League softball teams of Charlotte.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Oliver Pride Kerr an Evelyn Simpson Kerr. He is survived by his wife, Janice Smith Kerr; step-children: Kelly Newsome and Tracey (Mike) Taormina and his step-grandchildren: Rachel Webb, Emory White, Cassidy White and William Webb and several cousins.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, Saturday, the 26th of October, 2024 in the Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Service. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM and inurnment with military honors will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
