Laura Jane Jane Parke

Jane Parke, age 82, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Novant Health Medical Center in Huntersville, NC. Born October 25, 1933 in Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late George and Ellen Burris. Jane was a member of the last graduating class of Derita High School. For many years she was employed as support for persons with intellectual disabilities at Nevins Center Inc. She also was involved with a compensatory education program at Central Piedmont Community College and The Center for Human Development. Jane, “Calamity Jane”, “Miss Jane” was so very passionate about children and people with special needs. She devoted a great deal of her time to service at First Christian Church of Charlotte as a devoted choir member and also as the greeter at the Dilworth Soup Kitchen. People expected to be welcomed, but did not expect the hug and the heart felt love and acceptance that they received from Miss Jane.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Saturday, September 24th at First Christian Church, 1200 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203. The service to celebrate the life of Laura Jane Parke will be held 1:30 PM Saturday at the church with Rev. Jolin Wilkes McElroy officiating. Interment will follow in William Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. “J.C.” James Cliffton Parke Jr.; three children, Debra Leigh Overcash, Laura Gale Overcash and Curtis Alan Overcash (Darren Borrilez); sister, Judy Diamond; seven grandchildren; Allison, Catherine and Robyn Arvay, Mallory, Connor, John and Megan Parke; three step children, Jeanette Parke Beck (William), James David Parke (Cally) and Dr. Charles Parke (Kathy).
