Mr. Efird, of Charlotte, passed peacefully “over the rainbow bridge” Friday, December 10th, in the comforting presence of his wife, bother, family and close friends.
Born November 29th, 1947, Larry was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Evelyn in 2007.
Larry was the president and owner of Mecklenburg Plumbing Company, Inc. His father began the commercial plumbing business in 1948. Like his father, Larry committed his efforts to running the business with integrity to ensure it provided stable employment to its loyal employees.
Larry was a man who lived life to its fullest extent. He had a wry sense of humor, had many interesting friends and preferred being outdoors over any other activity. Whether it was his life on Lake Norman and Hobie Cat regattas, his love of motor sports and competitive racing here and overseas, or spending time at his home in Montana, he chose to explore America first and foremost. To call Larry an American Patriot would be regarded as the best possible compliment. His dedication to, and passion for the armed services lead him to volunteer a large part of this time to the USO Club and servicemen traveling through Douglas International Airport. He was honored to serve as an Escort to Dewey Stanley and other World War II Veterans on their Flight of Honor to Washington DC. His skills in photography served him well and his last project was photographing the United States Air Force’s newest fighter the F-22.
Larry and his wife Martha were long time, dedicated members of Mouzon UMC. He was, with his wife Martha, active in every aspect of the church’s life and he leaves many loving friends. He served the church through service to the UMC Women’s Group as their photographer for many years. The UMC Women’s group recognized this skill and his dedication by presenting him, on three different occasions, Life Membership Pins for Special Mission Recognition.
Larry is survived by his wife Martha Jenison Efird, his brother Timothy Efird and wife Phyllis of Stanley, NC, their children Brent Efird and wife Tiffany of Gastonia, NC, Kimberly Hamrick of Stanley, and Charles and wife Lorie of Mt. Holly, NC; Father and Mother In Law Ed and Ruth Jenison, Brother in Law George E. Jenison, wife Pam and their children Ellen, George and Lee, Brother in Law Eric, wife Kathy and sons Shane Samson and Jake Jenison, all from Charlotte, NC.
A visitation will be held will be held Thursday December 16th from 4:30 to 6:30 at Harry and Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte.
A service celebrating his life will be held at Mouzon UMC on Friday, December 17th at 11 a.m.
