

Lewis L. Perry, age 84 of Charlotte passed away December 16, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2::00PM Tuesday, December 20th in the Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Reverends Doug Pruett and Cecil Ballard officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Perry was born in Mecklenburg County December 12, 1927 son of the late Thomas Ernest and Mary Ruth Hummer Perry. He was a member of Hope Community Church (formerly Greenland Avenue and Westmoreland Baptist Church). He had served as a Deacon, Choir Member, and loved working with the youth of the churches. He was an avid sportsman and was a lifelong Yankee fan, served in the US Army in the 229th Ordinance attached to the 229th Division at Suki Air Force Base in Japan. He retired from the Colonial Stores and later was associated with Purolator and Jiffy Express.
Surviving are daughters, Donna McGill (Gary) of Catawba, NC and Karen Allen (Keith) of Charlotte, grandchildren, Gary McGill, Jr. of Catawba, NC, Michelle Null (Stephen) of Claremont, NC and Cliff Allen of Charlotte, great grandchildren, Haley Null and Jeremy Null all of Claremont, NC, and numerous nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Weatherford Perry, brother Robert Lee Perry, sisters, Mary Jane Simpson and Stella Vereen. The family would like to thank his nephew, William “Billy” Griffith for the care given to Lewis the past year.
