

Charlotte-Lillian Eloise Raney, 92, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Monroe. A native of Rutherford County, she was born on June 6, 1920 to the late John E. McFarland and Rosa Lee Nanny McFarland. Mrs. Raney was a graduate of Hollis High School, Hollis, NC, but grew up near Ellenboro, NC and was a graduate of Evans Business College in Gastonia. Prior to and during World War II, she worked for United States Rubber Company, afterwards Continental Electric Corporation.
She later assisted her husband as secretary/bookkeeper of W.F. Raney Services and was an active member of Amity Presbyterian Church since 1956. In addition to teaching Sunday School at the church, Mrs. Raney was a member of Eastway Park Women’s Club, the Winterfield Booster Club and was formerly active in the Alpha Zeta Sorority.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00PM, Wednesday, October 10th at Amity Presbyterian Church, 2831 N Sharon Amity Rd., with Rev. Betsy Williamson and Rev. Jeff Andler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:45PM at the church prior to the funeral.
Mrs. Raney is survived by two daughters, Shirley Trivett and husband Jimmy, of Indian Trail, Carolyn Raney, of Oakboro; a sister Frances Baker, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Ashley Nelson and husband Kenny, of Monroe, Shelly Trivett, of Oakboro; three great-grandchildren,
Trevor Nelson, of Moyock, Dylan Nelson, of Monroe and Hana Nelson, of Monroe.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Raney was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Woodrow F. Raney; a sister Helen Weiss and two brothers, Paul McFarland and Richard McFarland.
