A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Mulberry Presbyterian Church, Pastor Chris Carrasco presiding. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
Linda earned a BA in Business Administration from UNC-Charlotte and an MBA from the prestigious Duke-Fuqua School of Business. She was a long time employee of Belk Store Services in the Architecture and Finance Divisions. Linda later moved on to work as a Vice President and Senior Team Leader of GE Capital and a Senior Account Executive/Consultant for Triventure Group Companies and Drake Beam Morin. Linda most recently was the Principal for the Consulting Group in Davidson, NC.
Linda was often recognized for the time and effort she put towards the professional organizations she was involved in. She was on the Board of Directors and a past President for the National Carolina Treasury Management Association. She took pride in the Cash Adventure Conferences that she organized annually. She also served as President of the International Credit Association of Greater Charlotte and President of Financial Women International-Charlotte Metro Chapter.
Linda also took great pride in the work she did for charitable and civic organizations. She was on the Board of Directors for Alexander Children’s Home and Sharon Towers, a volunteer for Urban Ministries’ Open Door Clinic, and a grant writer for the Lake Norman Free Clinic in Huntersville. Most recently, Linda founded the Charlotte Chapter of UNIFEM, an organization dedicated to working for women’s human rights and security around the world. Linda’s greatest love was her church family at Mulberry Presbyterian Church. A member for over 40 years, Linda volunteered her time selflessly. She was the first woman elected to the Office of Elder, served multiple terms on session, chaired session committees for worship, Christian education, missions and three pastoral search committees. Linda was the volunteer youth ministry leader for over 20 years. She organized annual trips to the youth conferences at Montreat. She also was a consistent Sunday School Teacher and touched many lives at Mulberry, young and old.
In addition to her local church activities, Linda represented Mulberry as the Moderator of Presbyterian Women for the Presbytery of Charlotte, served as a Commissioner from the Mecklenburg Presbytery to the PCUSA General Assembly, as well as served on numerous Presbyterian Church committees.
Another one of Linda’s favorite activities was her love of travel. Linda visited many European countries and embraced their cultures. Recently, she returned from a tour with her husband of the German/Swiss Alps where she witnessed the Passion Play, a play performed every 10 years in Oberammergau, Germany depicting the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ. In addition to her travels in Europe, she also treasured her trips within the United States, especially New York City. When she was not traveling you could often find her relaxing and enjoying a good mystery novel.
Linda spent her life working for God through Mulberry Presbyterian Church. Therefore, the family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Linda’s name to Mulberry Presbyterian Church, 5600 Tuckaseegee Road, Charlotte, NC, 28208.
