I was personally saddened to learn of Lloyd Scher's passing.  Around 1985, Royal Insurance made plans to relocate from Lower Manhattan to Charlotte.  I was an employee then with concerns about moving my family 700 miles South.  One of the concerns was how would a Jewish family such as mine, acclimate from a city with the largest Jewish population in the United States, to a North Carolina town with a church seemingly on every corner?  Lloyd, perhaps anticipating this, flew to New York on his own dime and gathered Royal's Jewish representation for a special dialogue. He spoke of Charlotte's rich Jewish history (and that of Charlotte itself) and the plans for a more significant presence in the city, i.e. the to-be-developed state-of-the art Jewish Community Center and more.  Lloyd was a great advocate for Charlotte.  As we say in my faith, may his memory be for a blessing.

Lloyd, you never missed a moment to share how proud of me you were and to give me words of encouragement. Your love for politics and unapologetic commitment to do the work to make Mecklenburg a better place for all of us will never be forgotten.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lloyd Scher. I knew him for over a half-century and will remember him as a sincere advocate for the many passions he held. His interests were vast and morally sound. He was just a delightful person and he will be sorely missed. I sure know I will miss him.
My heart goes out to his loved ones and all those who called him a friend. May all of them find peace in the midst of this profound loss.

Lloyd was such a great client and a great friend was his caregiver for 3 1/2 years 💙 ❤️ Will always have a special part of my heart

Lloyd and I were friends since we were 13 years old. They say you make a lot of acquaintances in your lifetime but your true friends you can count on one hand Lloyd was certainly a true friend and it was on that hand. I’ve already written one comment it obviously went over the 2000 characters so it wasn’t posted but I love him like a brother and I’m gonna miss him every day. He loved the Daniel Boone inn in Boone, North Carolina, and we would just go up for lunch. The one time that he ran away from home still to this day makes me laugh. We had a great time all week until it was time to go home and he had to call the rabbi to get things straightened out. He had the biggest heart and served our community with love and generosity.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg  area has lost a truly great and giving person. Lloyd and I have been friends ,shared the good and bad, since we were 13 years old going to school at AG. He  served the community with his heart. I’m going to miss him as my friend forever. I learned so much from him growing up because I was just a local kid kind of naïve didn’t know too much about the world he was from New York and traveled the subways the buses all kinds of areas from New York. He taught me how to ride the bus, just  local transportation but I had never done anything like that before. He taught me about how important it was to think about others and work hard even if it didn’t prosper you. They say you make a lot of acquaintances in your lifetime, but your true friends , you can count on one hand he was certainly by all means on that one hand. I could call him anytime and he would come running if I needed him and I know that with all my heart. I don’t think there’s enough room to share all the stories but Lloyd loved the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone North Carolina he and I would go up there to just have lunch and turn around and come back half a day trip just for lunch, but he loved that place so much.While driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway we would pull  over and snap some photos. He was a wonderful photographer. Take some of the most beautiful pictures of the blue Ridge some of the old standing homestead. If you haven’t seen any of his photographs from the East Coast, you’ve missed some beautiful pictures. One time  that really sticks out it makes me laugh and really puts a spark in my heart is the day he ran away from home, I don’t know why but  at the time it didn’t matter I had my best friend going to the beach with me . I was sitting on the backseat and here comes Lloyd  up the steps got on the bus looked around saw me and sit down beside me and said I’m running away!!!We had a ball all week until time to come home so he called the rabbi to prepare the way

Lloyd had one of the biggest, most generous hearts of anyone we have ever known. And what a creative dreamer he was. We're grateful he had close friends by his side at the end.

He was a devoted grandparent to our children. He will be missed.
