Loretta L. Brown

Loretta Cooke Brown, age 77, formerly of Paw Creek, NC, Gaston, SC and Rock Hill, SC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening after a brief illness. She was born in Utica, NY on January 1, 1937, “first child born that year.” She is preceded in death by her parents Herb and Edna Lanning, husbands Gerald L. Cooke I and Curtis “Buddy” Brown and one son Louis “Butch” Blackmon. She was also predeceased by a brother Ronnie Edwards and a sister Nancy Caldwell. She is survived by her four boys Gerald “Jerry” Cooke II of Rock Hill, SC, Gary Cooke(Lisa) of Stanley, NC, Frankie Brown(Sarah) of Waxhaw, NC and Glenn Brown of Columbia, SC; and daughter Christie Southern of Mt. Holly. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, sister Beverly Carr of New Port Richey, FL and brother Bill Lanning of Columbus, OH. A graveside service will be held Saturday, 1:00 PM at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens, 700 South Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
