Louis H. Meacham

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11am on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, with the Reverend Dr. John B. Earl, II, officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Mr. Meacham was born December 27, 1913, in McComb, MS, the son of the late James Bryon Meacham and Ferrie Thomason Meacham. At an early age, he moved to Charlotte and attended the public schools and old Central High, where he was President of the Student Council his senior year. He received his training in architecture at NC State University and practiced architecture for forty-five years in Charlotte. In 1958, he was named President of the architectural and engineering firm, Biberstein, Bowles, Meacham and Reed and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1989. Before his retirement, he began the study of watercolor painting by attending Queens College and CPCC. He continued painting in this art form until recently.

Mr. Meacham was a charter member of Avondale Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and Clerk of the Session. He was the chairman of two building programs for this church. He also served as Vice President of the Men of Mecklenburg Presbytery. Mr. Meacham was also a member of the American Institute of Architects and Carmel Country Club.

In 1938, he was married to Helen Vashti Floyd of Lumberton, NC. His beloved Helen predeceased him in 1998. He was also predeceased by brothers J.B. Meacham, Henry Meacham and sister, Virginia Meacham.

Mr. Meacham is survived by his children, Susan Thompson and husband Alex of Lexington, Kentucky; Nancy Spaugh and husband Gordon of Winston-Salem, NC; Hunter Meacham and wife Wanda of Charlotte, NC; and Julie Seidenspinner and husband Dick of Cornelius, NC.

“Pop” is survived by grandchildren, Alex Thompson; Gordon Spaugh and wife, Christie; Susan Alexander and husband, David; Peter Meacham; Laura Meacham, Hunt Meacham and wife, Nicole; Corey Seidenspinner; and Christian Seidenspinner; and great-grandchildren, Eric Spaugh, Elizabeth Spaugh, Adam Spaugh, Cole Alexander, Claire Alexander, Liam Meacham, Henry Meacham, Billie Meacham, Miles Meacham and Max Meacham.

The family would like to thank his loving caregivers Penny, Marcus and everyone at Hospice House in Huntersville. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Avondale Presbyterian Church, 2821 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209.
