Louvina "Lulu" Coley Wingate

Lulu was born Tuesday, September 15th, 1931, in York County, South Carolina. She was the eldest of four siblings. She came from very humble beginnings, at a time when hard work was a must. Lulu never took an easy road. She worked hard for everything she had.

Lulu moved to North Charlotte where she raised her five sons. In her early years she worked hard at a factory and taking care of her family. Lulu loved to put on her straw hat and work in her garden planting vegetables and flowers. She also loved traveling to Tennessee to see her grandkids. As she got older, Lulu loved spending time in the mountains.

Lulu was introduced to cruise ships by her friend Deborah. Lulu was hooked! She loved going on a cruise. She was often with her sister Kitty and her friend Judy on the cruise's.. One of her favorite parts was dinner. Not because of the food, but because Lulu enjoyed dressing up. She enjoyed putting on a nice outfit, some pearls and having her hair freshly done. It gave Lulu great joy to do those things.

In the last few years of Lulu's life she enjoyed simple things. Like scrapping with her sons Mack and Perry or going out to eat with her son Jimmy. Lulu loved to visit her granddaughter Sunshine and her family in Tennessee.

When Lulu would be visited by her great grandsons, one of her favorite pastimes was to have them brush her hair or scratch her back. She would sit there so peacefully with a joyful look on her face as Brandon and Eli pampered her.

At the age of 90, Lulu had her first pedicure. She was so giddy with excitement and pure joy.

Lulu had five sons, eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. She loved each and every one of them!

To know Lulu was to love Lulu. She was a genuine person, with a very pure soul. Lulu was a God-fearing woman and loved Jesus with all she had.

Lulu is survived by son James Bumpus, his wife and their four children, and nine grandchildren.; son Robert Wingate, his four children, and ten grandchildren; sons Dennis, Perry, and Mack Wingate. and sister Kathleen "Kitty" Piercy.

Lulu was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Wingate, brothers JC & George Coley, father James Coley and mother Julia Fox.

The family will greet friends at 10am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte with a chapel service to follow at 11am. Burial immediately following at Six Mile Creek Church Cemetery located at 7520 Charlotte Highway in Indian Land, SC.
