

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Lucia (DiMatteo) Troia, age 75, after a long illness on 1-21-2011 with her daughters and family members at her side. She will be remembered as a wonderful Daughter, Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and Great Aunt. She was gracious and kind, frequently thinking of others and their needs first. Everyone that met her loved her instantly. She pursued her hobby of crafts leaving many family heirlooms to treasure. She was also an excellent cook, a loving Wife and a Family Legend. She drew great strength from her Catholic faith and at peace, joined her beloved husband, Sestilio Troia, who preceded her in death by 10 years.
She was a longtime parishioner at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Monaca, PA until she moved to Charlotte, NC in April 2007. A parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Charlotte, NC since 2007. Lucia (DiMatteo) Troia was born in Pacentro di Aquileia, Italy on December 9, 1935 to the late Antonio DiMatteo and Rosa (Celeste) DiMatteo. She came to America in 1951 on a transcontinental voyage via the SS Constitution from-Genoa-Naples to New York.
The second of five children, she is survived by two brothers: Salvatore DiMatteo (Adelina) and Giovanni DiMatteo (Gemma) and two sisters: Anna (DiMatteo) Kozar (Steven) and Amelia (DiMatteo) DiCenzo (Frank.) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Rosa Maria (Troia) Volpe (Robert) of Cleveland, OH; Yvonne (Troia) Marston (Mike) of Fort Mill, SC; Janice (Troia) Lemmon (Christopher) Beaver, PA; and Janney (Troia) Freeman (Bill) of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren: Michelle (Volpe) Kohler (Christian), Christopher Volpe, Alyssa Farls and her great grandchild, Cashion Volpe Kohler, will truly miss their Grandma. She also has five step-grandchildren: Alissa and Frank Lemmon and Tim, Lauren, and Brian Marston who will dearly miss her.
A mass will be celebrated . at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Monaca, PA.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the senior adult care facility in South Carolina where Lucia had so many friends that loved her and she loved so dearly.
