Dr. Lucila “Lucy” Noval Cabugwason, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, physician, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at 10:11 p.m. in Charlotte, North Carolina, just days before her 86th birthday.
Born on October 31, 1939, in Cebu City, Philippines, Lucila lived a life marked by perseverance, devotion, and deep compassion for others. After establishing a successful medical career in her home country, she courageously immigrated to the United States with her husband and young daughter in 1971. Though she was already a physician, she embraced the challenge of rebuilding her career in a new nation — driven by commitment to her calling and her family’s future.
Dr. Cabugwason served the communities of Stanly County and beyond for many years with distinction, care, and humility. Known lovingly as “Dr. Lucy,” she touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues through her gentle spirit and tireless dedication. Medicine was her profession, but service was her ministry. She was one of the founding members of the Filipino American Community of the Carolinas (FACC).
Her strong Catholic faith was at the center of her life. A devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC, Lucila lived as a steward of God’s love — giving generously, praying faithfully, and offering comfort to those in need. She carried a servant’s heart into every exam room, every friendship, and every moment with her family.
Lucila was a loving mother and grandmother whose quiet strength and warm presence uplifted those fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her resilience, humility, kindness, and profound trust in God’s plan.
She is survived by her daughter, Ms. Astrid Cabugwason Martin, her granddaughter, Lucy Clare Martin, and her sister, Salvacion Noval Musni. She is preceded in death by her husband, Exuperancio Cabugwason and other cherished family members now reunited with her in eternal peace.
Visitation will be held in the narthex of St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway, Charlotte NC at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of compassion, service, and prayer in her memory — honoring the way she lived her life in devotion to God and others.
