It looks like it's going to be Lynn's last road trip. He passed away on May 27, 2023, from complications arising from overindulgence and laughter. He wishes that his last words would have been, "I'd like to see just one more KU basketball game." He grew up in Kansas City, raised by loving parents and a public school system that did well for him. He attended the University of Kansas for eleven consecutive years, attaining a BA, MA, and Ph.D. During that time, his son, Zak, was born. "I'm so fortunate to have such a loving and caring son," he would tell friends. Lynn always had an affinity for historic neighborhoods, especially those that liked to "neighbor” as he put it.
He organized the University Place Neighborhood Association in Lawrence, KS, was president of the Hinds Lake Association in Park Rapids, MN, and was an active member of the Fourth Ward in Charlotte, NC, including managing their holiday home tour for more than a decade and serving as president for several years. "Every man needs to have a bar of his own,” Lynn would say. In Lawrence, KS, it was Louise's; in Jackson, MS it was Christo's; and in Charlotte, it was Alexander Michaels. Lynn spent most of his retirement traveling the highways and byways of America, seeking out the funkiest museums and roadside points of interest. Nearly every summer included visiting his Minnesota lake cabin built by his grandparents in the early 1940s. The cabin held many personal memories and provided the kind of solitude and little pleasures that can never be underestimated. He enjoyed making memories with his loving companion and best friend, Laura, in their travels over the last decade. His son Zak, daughter-in-law Melodie, and granddaughter Olivia survive him. As Lynn’s mother said, "Life is for the living." So, get on with it!
Lynn will be laid to rest next to his parents in Kansas City. A celebration of friends will be held at Elmwood Pinewood Cemetery from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 2nd.
His family wishes that memorial contributions would be sent to Historic Elmwood Pinewood, Inc. or Friends of Fourth Ward.
