

She was a graduate of Walker Gamble High School in Clarendon County, South Carolina. She accepted Christ at an early age. She had two children by the age of 22 and relocated to Queens, NY to start a new life with her children. She eventually began a stable career working with children at the Multi Service daycare program in the Bronx, NY, where she worked for many years. She also became an Eastern Star and held the rank of Grand Worthy Matron.
In 1991, she relocated to Fayetteville, NC where she completed continuing education courses for childcare at Fayetteville Community College. After completing her certification, she was employed as a Director for Panda Daycare, Fayetteville, NC. She is known for her love and compassion for children and staff.
In 2020, she relocated to Charlotte, NC to live with her beloved son, whom she affectionately called “Tony”, until God plucked his perfect flower for Himself.
Margaret was preceded in death by two daughters Debbia H. Evans-Wilson and Iris Evans, and two uncles Prest Evans and Elijah Evans.
Margaret leaves to cherish loving memories : her son Malik “Tony” Ashhali of Charlotte, NC, two sisters Glenda McCray of Fayetteville, NC and Hazel Terry of Long Island, NY; one brother John McCray of Vancouver, WA; two aunts Dorothy Murray of Queens, NY and Francis Cason of Elmont, NY; one uncle Sabe Evans of Clarendon SC, six grandchildren; DaShavone Holmes (Robert) of Raeford, NC , Dalavone Thomas of Bronx, NY; Da’Yvone Evans of Owings Mill, Md; Jordan Wilson and Tyrell Wilson of Virgina, and Shakuri Ashhali of Columbia, SC; eight great-grandchildren; Ashaiya, J’Nasha, Rahmel, Giovanni, Micheal, Monika, Ja’Layah, and Makhi; one great-great-grandchild Zion; an adopted mother Dorothy White; a goddaughter Samantha Adams SC; adopted sisters Katherine Davenport and Brenda Hill-Jackson, two adopted brothers Matthew Davenport and Donald Davenport; an adopted daughter Debra Sanders; two adopted sons Lloyd Johnson and Willie Johnson; nine adopted grandchildren Ricsheika Eller, Iesha Garland, Jarious McMillan, Kym Sanders, Joanna Dawkins, Toni Sanders, LaTwanda Sanders, Jonquilla Sanders and Nia Barber; and a host of other relatives and friends.
We are forever grateful to Barbara Simpson for her exceptional care and devotion to our beloved Margaret. Her kindness, patience, and expertise have been a beacon of hope and comfort during a challenging time.
