

Margaret Severs Hunter died Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Sharon Towers. A native Charlottean, Margaret was born on October 10, 1921 in the former St. Peters Hospital on North Poplar Street. One of eight children of the late Lawrence Alexander Severs and Willie Brumley Severs, Margaret was a direct descendant of Matthew McClure, a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Margaret graduated from old Harding High School in Charlotte and attended Queens College. She was a member of Myers Park Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Fellowship Class. Margaret was a proud member of the Mecklenburg Chapter of DAR.
Margaret is survived by her older sister, Matilda A. Severs of Charlotte; her son, Thomas Hoke Hunter III (Deryle Ivey) of Charlotte; her daughter, Margaret Hunter Fitzgerald (Kevin) of Richmond, VA and Boston, MA; her very loved niece, Jane Gabriel Compton of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Sloan Howell Loving (Todd) of Richmond, VA, George Cook Howell IV (Elizabeth) of Greenville, SC, Thomas Hoke Hunter IV of Charlotte, and Elizabeth Ivey Hunter of Charlotte; and one great-granddaughter, Catherine Sloan Loving, of Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by her siblings, Sadie Severs Morris, Lawrence Alexander Severs, Jr., Henry Charles Severs, Marie Severs Lewis, Dorothy Severs Albright, and Jane Severs Gabriel.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Michael Friedland, M.D., the staff at Sharon Towers, and Hospice Charlotte Region South for their wonderful care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Francis Chapel at Myers Park Methodist Church. A private burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Sharon Towers Residents’ Assistance Fund.
