Margaret came into this world October 23, 1924, in Union, SC, weighing 2.5 pounds, and left to meet her heavenly father and savior on April 12, 2012, surrounded by the love and admiration of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ardrey A. Solomon, her mother, Lula Mae Stutts Arthur, and her brother, Lewis DeLeon Arthur.
Margaret retired from Mecklenburg County Social Services with over 25 years of service. Previously, she worked 15 years for The Grinnel Company. She enjoyed traveling, dining out, attending Newell Baptist Church for over 45 years, her “aquatic” exercise at Simmons YMCA, shopping, shoes, and wearing hats. Her passion was spending time with family, including her many beloved pet dogs. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be fondly remembered for her feisty personality, flaming red hair, and her devotion to her family and God. She will be deeply missed but will remain in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her son, Leon Solomon, and his wife Judie, of Denver, CO; 3 daughters: Linda Lidington, and her husband, Rick, Sarah Clement, all of Charlotte, and Terrie Sites, and her husband, Greg, of Harrisburg; 5 grandchildren: Kimberly Ramirez, and her husband, Frank, Jessica Sack, and her husband, Steve, Josalyn Lowrance, and her fiancé, Patrick Allen, Abraham Sites, and his girlfriend, Gretal Drake, and Gabriel Sites; and 4 great-grandchildren: Madeline Ramirez, McKenzie Howard, Logan Sack, and Addison Sites.
A private burial will be held for Margaret’s immediate family prior to the funeral service. The family will then receive friends from 12-1 pm on Monday, April 16, at Newell Baptist Church, followed by a service to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newell Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Simmons YMCA.
Arrangements are in the care of Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC.
